National Research Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod (Lobachevsky University, UNN) was founded in 1916. After the Bolshevik Revolution, it became the first restored university of Soviet Russia. In 1956, because of its outstanding scientific results, the university was named after Nicholas Lobachevsky, famous Russian mathematician. Nowadays Lobachevsky University is the leading Russian comprehensive universitiy, winner of international and national projects in the field of science & education, awardee of the prestigious public category “National Research University”, participant of the Russian Academic Excellence Project “5-100”.

The UNN main campus is located in the historical centre of Nizhny Novgorod. Nizhny Novgorod (former Gorky) is the capital of the Volga Federal District of Russia, important Russian industrial & cultural centre (more than 1,3 million inhabitants). Situated on confluent of Oka & Volga Rivers in 400 km to the east from Moscow (1 hour by plane or 3,5 hours by train), Nizhny Novgorod is considered to be most comfortable Russian city for business & stay (Numbeo Ranking, 2019).

Lobachevsky University includes 18 educational institutes & faculties with more than 26 000 students & PhD students from 105 countries of the world. The university infrastructure contains 6 research institutes, a number of world-class laboratories equipped within the Megagrants projects, Supercomputing Center with supercomputer "Lobachevsky", Biomedical Cluster, SPF-vivarium, Botanical Garden, state-of-the-art medical simulation classes, Park of Science, Business Incubator, Volunteering Centre, Media Center, Sport Complex, etc. Our students are closely involved in R&D activities and can win special scholarships from UNN partner companies (HUAWEI, INTEL, SBERBANK, MICROSOFT, NVIDIA, GAZPROM, LUKOIL, ROSATOM, ALFABANK).

The university offers more than 300 accredited vocational, undergraduate (Bachelor & Specialist) and postgraduate (Master & PhD) programmes. A number of them is taught in English (such Bachelor`s programmes as “International Relations”, “Economics”, “Fundamental Computer Science & Information Technology”, Specialist programme in General Medicine, Master`s programmes majoring in “International Relations”, “Sociology”, “Management”, "Software Engineering" and PhD in Supercomputing Technologies). UNN students are encouraged to participate in international mobility with over 100 international partners of Lobachevsky University, including ERASMUS+ exchanges, summer schools and the Double Degree option. UNN also provides summer schools & comprehensive training for students who study Russian as a foreign language (including the Foundation course for those who plan to study in Russian). Foreign nationals can undergo a test in Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL) and receive an international TORFL certificate confirming the level of their proficiency in the Russian language.
