National Research University «Moscow Power Engineering Institute» is one of the largest tech-nical universities in the field of energy, electrical engineering, radio engineering, electronics and in-formation technology.

National Research University «Moscow Power Engineering Institute» was founded in Moscow in 1930 to provide the developing energy sector with engineering personnel.

National Research University «Moscow Power Engineering Institute» was awarded two state or-ders and seven orders of foreign countries for success in training of engineers and academic person-nel. In 2018 National Research University «Moscow Power Engineering Institute» proved the activity compliance with the criteria of the EFQM excellence model. In 2019 National Research University “Moscow Power Engineering Institute” was rated “5 stars” according to the QS Stars audit results un-der the categories of “Teaching”, “Employment”, “Innovation” and “Infrastructure”. MPEI entered the top 10 Russian technical universities in Russia in the Superjob Rating in terms of the level of salaries of young professionals employed in the IT industry who graduated from universities in 2014-2019.

National Research University «Moscow Power Engineering Institute» is a permanent member of the International Association of Universities (IAU) under UNESCO.

In 2009 MPEI joined the University of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and it is currently the coordinator of the "Energy" field. Since 2016 National Research University «Moscow Power Engi-neering Institute» has joined the educational project of the BRICS Network University, where it leads the international topic group on Energy. Since 2017 National Research University «Moscow Power Engineering Institute» has joined the CIS Network University.

On the 30th of October, 2015, Heads of CIS States Council decided to approve National Re-search University “Moscow Power Engineering Institute” to be a back-up organization of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States on training, occupational retraining and advanced training of personnel in the field of power engineering.
